Coffee in the United States is served by three kinds of places: national chains with drive-thrus and mobile ordering, independent neighborhood cafes that double as a workspace or a meeting spot, and specialty shops that roast their own beans or buy single-origin lots and brew them by pour-over, espresso or cold brew. Most open between 6 and 7 a.m. on weekdays, slightly later on weekends, and the busiest hour is the commute rush before 9. A drip coffee runs a few dollars, espresso drinks and specialty pours more, and tipping a dollar or a percentage on the card reader is customary but not required. Nearly every cafe offers free Wi-Fi, though some limit laptop seating at peak times or on weekends, and outlets are often the scarce resource.

Came here because it’s supposed to be one of those iconic movie-related spots in Charlotte—specifically, because of the "Hunger Games" macarons. The atmosphere is truly unique; it feels like a cross between an art gallery and a film set. The macarons are decent—they have quite a bit of artificial coloring, but a good texture and flavor. The coffee was just average, too: nothing spectacular, but not bad either. They offer regular milk, almond and oat 'milk'

Amelie’s at the College Street Shops in Uptown Charlotte has a lot of promise as a workspace café, but my first visit left something to be desired on the food and beverage front. The matcha was underwhelming - average in flavor and noticeably undermixed, which affected the overall quality of the drink. The crème brûlée, unfortunately, had a distinctly burnt taste that made it difficult to enjoy. That said, the café’s layout is genuinely impressive for anyone seeking a productive work environment. The space offers an abundance of seating options and plentiful outlets, making it one of the more accommodating work-from-café spots I’ve visited in Uptown. I would be open to returning and trying additional menu items to see if my experience improves, but I would temper expectations around the food and beverage offerings based on this visit.

I have been here twice in the week and a 1/2., both times for breakfast and I have to say not only was the food delicious, but the interior is gorgeous, this location is just exquisite in the atmosphere. So many amazing touches, and you can sit outside or inside or upstairs or downstairs. You can people watch in uptown Charlotte. What could be better than this place?
